Shawn hasn’t been a member of the Adult Recreation program for long, but he’s been making the most of it. Each month he signs up for a variety of events ranging from game nights to crafts to educational activities. Some of the latest activities he’s attended include a mystery game, a casino night, and a trip to the St. Charles County Veterans Museum.
He graduated from high school in 2019 and was looking for something fun to do. He learned about Community through his sister who’s friends with one of the current Adult Recreation staff members.
“It gets me out of the house and I get to actually do stuff with other people.”
He used to work a part-time job but says it wasn’t really for him, so he spends a lot of time at home in a busy house where he lives with his family including two young nieces. “I mostly just hang out up in my room because it’s the only place I can get some alone time,” he said. One of his favorite things to do at home is watching gamers stream on YouTube with his dog, but that gets old after a while. Since he’s been attending Adult Rec events, he’s met new people and enjoys the change of scenery. “It gets me out of the house and I get to actually do stuff with other people.”
“The staff are really cool,” he said. “It’s a really awesome experience.”
