We’re proud to welcome Jan Mason back to the Board of Directors!
Jan’s passion for helping people with disabilities began as a teenager when she babysat a child in her neighborhood who had a hearing impairment and was learning American Sign Language (ASL). That inspired her to pursue a degree in Education which led to a role as a long-term substitute in an elementary school for children with disabilities.
Later in her career, Jan was attending a Chamber of Commerce meeting and heard Community Living’s previous CEO Barb Griffith giving a speech about the organization’s mission and inquired about how she could get involved. “After a lot of discussion and a lot of thought and prayer, I applied for a position on the Board of Directors,” she said. Much of Jan’s professional background is in staffing and recruiting and she’s happy to bring her experience in resume reviewing and interviewing to the table when it comes to her role on the Board. She’s proud to say she was able to participate in the hiring of several of Community Living’s executive staff members.
One of Jan’s most memorable experiences with Community Living is getting to see our mission in action. She took a tour of the Respite Center and returned to prepare and serve dinner for participants with two of her friends. “It was eye-opening and tugged at our heart strings but also very rewarding,” she said. “It is an experience that I will never forget.”
In her spare time, Jan loves to read and belongs to a book club. She says she survived the pandemic by doing crafts and decorating. She has four adult children and six grandchildren and loves getting to see them pursue their athletic and musical endeavors.
After her brief hiatus, we’re happy to have Jan Mason back on our Board of Directors!
